A Glass Cabinet for our Sunlight

We found it awkward removing and putting away wine glasses in the cupboard and making sure they were secure and not rattling. After thinking about this for a while we decided to utilise the small space next to the door to make a glass cabinet. This is situated close to the table and chairs so it is perfectly placed.

The wood panels were already there on either side, so it was just a matter of putting a mirror on the back wall and fitting two shelves and a door. We made two cardboard templates and cut out four slots where each wine glass stem would fit, and on the second template we cut out four circles to fit the bottoms of the soft drink/beer glasses. We then took the templates along to a plastic fabricator and got him to make the shelves and the perspex door. When these arrived we were very pleased that they all fitted perfectly.

The next task was finding suitable hinges for fitting onto glass and eventually found what we wanted at Technical Equipment in Glenfield. It didn’t take us long to fix the mirror on with Velcro dots. The shelves were easy enough to screw on as they came with countersunk screw holes. The door wasn’t difficult to fit once we had marked where to put the hinges on the side panel. We put a little magnetic catch on the right-hand side to hold the door closed.

To stop any rattles when we are driving we have used a piece of plastic packaging material and cut it to shape, which we slot on top of the bowl part of the upturned wine glasses when we are travelling. This material is slightly pliable, so it is easy to fit on snugly.

We are very happy with the finished result especially since we managed to do it ourselves and we’re not really home handymen.

Dethleffs Globe 4 – 3.0L 180HP
Updated from Bruce & Judy

Our 8 week trip went well. Looks like the 3 litre Fiat engine is now run in and running sweet.

ODO at end of trip is 33,000 km

Correct detail is ….

We did a total of 7270 km and used 849.83 litres

So, 11.68 litres per 100 km, or, 8.55 km per litre.

I thought my first figures were very impressive, and consumption was way less that what we had been tracking since owning the motorhome.

Of interest was that I had an axle weigh done in a VTNZ shop in Timaru, and the result was

Front 1730 kg

Back 2180 kg

Total 3.910 kg

This was with full water tank, half a tank of diesel, and driver, but no passenger, plus all the gear that we carried with us for the South Island road trip.

So glad we have a model with a good payload, and a GVM of 4250 kg

Small improvements

Our new Dethleffs Trend is almost perfect, but being a bit of a handyman with time on my hands I have added  some things that my wife and I think make the van even better for us. The first thing we did was move the rubbish bin from under the sink cupboard and hang it on two self adhesive hooks on the inside of the door, a small Velcro pad at the bottom holds it in place and it is easily removable. Jackie appreciates the extra cupboard space. On the same picture you can see where I mounted a clip for the readily accessible umbrella.  Above that we mounted a fire extinguisher.      To stop any movement of the telly when travelling I added 2 brown door stops which blend in well.  You might note the hook on a chain as well which stops any small rattle.  I added a front to the bottom shelf in the shower, simply bent up a piece of Perspex and sealed then riveted it in place. Nice to have somewhere for the wine bottles and glasses that would not rattle around so I simply used a hole cutter in the shelf that was there and added some clips for wine glasses. I added a $2 shop LED light and it looks quite attractive when open.

David & Liz Motorhome in Winter

Our Motorhome is performing just marvelously in now quite extreme conditions. The heating system is proving itself every day as temperatures are dropping below zero now almost every night. Liz is about to send you an amazing photo of our Esprit covered in snow. The snow was so thick that we were stranded for over 6 hours along with other road users. We were going to be towed out but managed to reverse through the snow to where the snow plows had cleared part of the road. Just as well as when I went to screw on the eye bolt to attach the tow rope it was too short and could not be screwed into the thread behind the front bumper bar!

When next in Christchurch, I will ask UCC if they have the proper attachment. Hope all is well with you and your good people in Howick.

Kindest regards David & Liz

Covi Super Show 2016

The Covi SuperShow is the biggest and best event of its kind…

On the back of record numbers at last year’s Covi NZMCA Insurance Motorhome, Caravan & Outdoor SuperShow, New Zealand’s largest motorhome caravan and outdoor show, is set to be even bigger.
The demand from motorhome and caravan industry exhibitors – both big and small – has been so strong organisers have had to once again add additional space with a massive 800 square metres of marquee being erected making the outside area much larger than ever before. It complements the 12,000 square metres of exhibitor space inside the pavilion.
The support from right across the ever-expanding motorhome and caravan industry means visitors will have a unique opportunity to see everything the industry has to offer in one place at one time, plus get a range of great bargains and have numerous opportunities to win prizes and even cash back on a motorhome purchase.
“Support from the motorhome and caravan industry and exhibitors has once again exceeded our expectations,” General Manager of Spot On Exhibitions David Culpan said. “Things are looking very good for another great show in March.”

Here at Zion Motorhomes Ltd we are really looking forward to attending the show. We would like to invite you come along and visit us at the show. If you are a seasoned motorhomer or caravanner, a relative novice or just thinking that the lifestyle maybe for you the Covi Super Show will have something for you.

The Covi SuperShow is the only show in New Zealand that will see all of New Zealand’s major motorhome and caravan brands on display, with many of them exhibiting exclusively and launching new models for 2016 at the show as well. Check out the website to see who’s exhibiting this year.

The Covi SuperShow has a proven track record of increasing visitor numbers and sales of your product year after year.

Over the first five years of the show we have introduced a number of new initiatives to the industry, from cashback incentives for visitors to purchase at the show, seminars, stand of the show awards, high quality venue, entertaining and interactive exhibits, significant gate prizes and a passport and stamping booth system to drive visitors to all corners of the show. We are committed to delivering results to you – the Covi SuperShow’s exhibitors.

This is going to be a great event and we would love to see you there. Make sure you come and visit us on Stand 125 and say Hello… 🙂

Once again it  will be backed by a significant marketing spend and media coverage; ensuring the Covi SuperShow message reaches the widest possible audience amongst the 2.4 million-plus Kiwis who live in the huge population centre that is Greater Auckland, Waikato, the Bay of Plenty and Northland.
